Flight Case Foam – The Best Foam for Flight Cases
Looking for flight case foam? GB Foam specialises in a range of foam cutting services. One such service we offer is the production of custom foam inserts.
What is a Flight Case?
A flight case is designed to protect an array of different items including tools, firearms, and musical instruments. There are two main types; one is heavy, and one is lightweight.
Flight cases designed to protect musical equipment are generally constructed from a specialised wood and reinforced by metal. These are often referred to as road cases and tend to be very heavy.
Lightweight flight cases are manufactured from sturdy plastics such as polypropylene. These are designed to be easily transported yet withstand high levels of impact. They can be used to store valuable and important items such as camera equipment, electronic tools, machine components and much more.
Flight cases are often lined with foam to help further protect items and hold them in place during transit. Lining with foam also makes the cases look more visually appealing.
What is the Best Flight Case Foam?
There are a variety of different foam grades suitable for use as flight case foam. In our opinion, the best type would be closed cell foam or packaging foam.
Plastazote LD33 is a strong, lightweight and flexible closed cell foam; it can be easily cut and shaped to your preference. This type of foam is designed to be resilient against high levels of impact, making it ideal for use as flight case foam. We stock sheets of Plastazote LD33 in both black and white. If you would like to learn more about this type of foam, visit our closed cell foam page.
Our Packaging Foam Sheet GB HLB is a versatile foam with a high load-bearing capacity. It provides fantastic levels of protection, making it great for use within flight cases and more!
If you would like to discuss foam grade suitability, please feel free to contact us. We stock a wide variety of foam grades and our team of experts will be happy to recommend the ideal one for your needs.
Cut to Size Packaging Foam
You can also order packaging foam cut to size and shape directly from our website. We offer a variety of templates to choose from including a custom foam shape for even more designs. Below, you’ll find just a few of the shapes we offer. If you can’t find the shape you need here, remember to check our foam cut to size homepage for our full collection.
Once you’ve chosen an appropriate shape, all you need to do is input the measurements you need, continue to the next step and choose our HLB packaging foam. Then just follow the next steps to finalise your order details.
Please note that we aren’t able to deviate from the shape provided in your order. If you need foam with sectional cutouts, for example, you’ll need a custom foam insert.
Custom Foam Inserts
If you are looking for multiple custom foam inserts, we can create ones for you using CNC cutting machinery. This process involves creating a CAD file, which our in-house design team can assist you with.
Due to cost implications and the time it takes to create these files, we are only able to offer this service for larger orders of custom foam inserts.
Custom foam inserts can be used throughout a variety of industries. For example, they are often seen on assembly lines. By utilising a precision cut foam insert, you minimise the risk of damaging or misplacing integral components. The loss or damage of integral components can cause critical time delays and unnecessary expenditure, something you’ll naturally want to avoid.
