It can be a bit of an ordeal trying to source tailor-made boat cushions and mattresses. Many companies don’t seem to take into account the specialist needs of anyone who owns one! We can provide everything from the initial foam design to the supply of a finished product. All of our foam is durable, exceptionally high quality and come in differing densities from the firmest, right down to the softest.

We can provide you with precisely cut boat cushions and mattresses to replace your old worn out ones which have become unusable and uncomfortable. Older kinds of cushion material no longer meet strict health and safety requirements, as they are not flame retardant or fireproofed.

Foam for Boats & Yachts – Points to Note

Old foam does not always give accurate measurements for creating new replacement foam. This is primarily because they get worn down with use over time and will have changed shape. It usually is best to start from scratch with new measurements, new templates, and new materials. Our online calculator can guide you through a very simple means of entering dimensions. What’s more, your boat cushions and mattresses can be with you as soon as the next working day.

If you’d like to start renovating your boat and would like our help, then please don’t hesitate to contact us today.

Upgrading Boat Foam With Reticulated Foam

Boat Seating Replacement Reticulated Foam

Summer has practically landed and we’re beginning to see signs of some seriously warm weather. Perfect boat weather, we think. But before you go bobbing along the shores, you should really make sure you’ve got your boat prepped. Here at GB Foam, we want to help ensure that your boat is truly the best it can be. To be in true shipshape, you should definitely consider upgrading your boat foam.

Why You Should Upgrade Your Boat Foam.

Being a device that floats on water, you’d think that most boats would come with seating suitable for wet conditions. This, however, is usually not the case. Boats will naturally draw water onto the deck at times. This can occur for a variety of reasons such as high waves or wet shipmates. If you’ve got substandard boat foam though, you certainly don’t want it getting too wet.

Boat foam that is not manufactured for wet conditions will absorb water heavily, leaving it uncomfortable to sit on. Foam that regularly becomes sodden is much more likely to break down at a faster rate. This will eventually leave your foam seating near enough unusable, thus requiring replacement.

What Foam is Best For Boats?

Without a shadow of a doubt, reticulated foam is perfect for use on boats. In 2001 GB Foam began working alongside manufacturers in the marine sector. The aim was to create a range of foam suitable for use on boats. This project proved to be extremely successful and we have now been providing reticulated foam to many happy customers for over ten years. If you’re searching for the best boat foam on the market, you’ve found it with reticulated foam.

Don’t wait for your boats current foam to break down, and don’t waste money consistently replacing it. By making the decision to immediately switch to reticulated boat foam, you’ll be saving yourself both time and money.

What is Reticulated Foam?

Reticulated foam has an extremely advanced open cellular structure. This means that it allows fluid to pass freely through it, whilst barely absorbing any at all. This dramatically reduces the time it takes for your boat foam to dry. It also helps ensure that your seating will last much longer than regular foam ones. By reducing the foams potential to get wet, reticulated foam will naturally last much longer than standard boat foam. This brilliant foam does all this, yet still does not sacrifice comfort. Reticulated foam is recognised as being just as comfortable, if not more comfortable than standard boat foam.

Reticulated foam isn’t just great for use on boats however; it also makes brilliant outdoor furniture cushions. For further information regarding the use of reticulated foam in outdoor cushions, be sure to read Summer is Approaching. Upgrade Your Outdoor Cushions to Reticulated Foam.

How to Upgrade Your Boat Foam.

Upgrading your current boat foam to reticulated foam is easy with GB Foam. All you’ll need to do is follow the five simple steps. Simply select your foam shape, measure your cushions accurately, input the details, choose reticulated foam and place your order. It really is that simple, so don’t hesitate, upgrade your boat foam today.

Boat Cushions & Boat Mattress Questions & Answers

To help you find what’s best for your boat mattress and/or boat cushions, we’ve put together a collection of frequently asked questions. If you would like to speak to our team about foam for boats, please head over to our contact page.

What Type of Foam is Used For Boat Cushions?

The best foam for boat cushions is reticulated foam. This quick-drying foam is ideal for cushions used around wet conditions and helps prevent the growth of mould and fungus. Unlike traditional upholstery foam, it has large open face cells and allows water to flow more freely through it. This means that the foam never gets too wet.

How Thick Should a Boat Mattress Be?

You may find that you’re relatively restricted in regards to the thickness of your boat mattress. Many measure between 4 – 8 inches in thickness. We can offer you a variety of foams for your mattress and can even laminate layers together. This means you can order a mattress with a memory foam topper, for example. If you’re unsure what would be best for your boat mattress, a member of our team will be happy to assist.

How Thick Should Boat Cushions Be?

A suitable thickness for boat cushions can vary between projects and preferences. However, as a rough guide, some standard thicknesses for cushions include interior back cushions (3 inch – 4 inch), interior seat cushions (4 inch– 5 inch), sleeping berths (5 inch – 6 inch) and cockpit cushion thickness (3 inch). These are just approximations, you may find that the foam you require varies to these sizes.

How Do You Clean Boat Cushions?

The way you clean your boat cushions will depend on their condition and which type of fabric is covering the cushions. Some water-resistant fabrics can be easily wiped clean, just ensure that any cleaning products you may be using, are suitable for the fabric. Either consult your supplier for cleaning information or if you are unable to, perform a spot test. If you’re using reticulated foam in your cushions, this is naturally antimicrobial and resistant to fungus. Providing you have suitable draining conditions; you can use water to clean reticulated foam as it will pass freely through the cells and dry quickly. You can consult also our foam cleaning guide for further information.

Can I Use Regular Foam for Boat Cushions?

Although reticulated foam is known as a superior marine foam, many boats still contain more traditional types of seating foam. You can use a high-density seating foam, but be sure to couple it with water-resistant upholstery fabric. Allowing regular foam boat cushions to get wet too often can cause the foam to degrade and can encourage the growth of mould and fungus.

What If I Need a Boat Mattress with Curved Edges?

The Boat Mattress Cushion Foam shape (or V-berth) has straight edges and is made up of 3 separate pieces of foam. If you wish to order this shape, please also ensure that the foam you require needs straight edges. If you need curved edges, please contact us as you may need to place an order for a custom foam shape.
